Gene Crotty ’55 (Darden ’57) was profiled Jan. 8, 2004, in a Roanoke Times article headlined “Daleville Resident Explores Former President’s Life.” According to the article, Crotty, a Thomas Jefferson enthusiast and scholar, has written three books about Jefferson (all published by the University of Virginia), as well as a book detailing Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s visits to Fincastle, since retiring in 1993. Mr. Crotty is a retired Professor and was a Visiting Professor at McIntire in 1989.

Robert Buerlein ’68 was elected to a second term as a member of the board of directors of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, which is building the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. He also serves on the boards of the Richmond Metropolitan Authority, The Museum of Edgar Allan Poe, and the University of Richmond Library. Buerlein is President of The American Historical Foundation, in Richmond, Va.

Bob Hunsberger ’69 was named President and CEO of San Diego-based WIDCOMM, a “leading global provider of software, systems, and turnkey designs to enable Bluetooth wireless communications.” Before joining WIDCOMM, Hunsberger was Chairman and CEO of Metawave Communications, in Redmond, Wash., from 1997 to early 2003. Albert E. Ferrara Jr. ’70 (Law ’73), a member of the McIntire School Advisory Board, was named CFO of Middletown, Ohio-based AK Steel, a New York Stock Exchange-listed company that “produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless, and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction, and manufacturing markets, as well as tubular steel products.” (Read the press release.) 

Lawrence Martin ’74 was recognized by Virginia Business magazine as a “Super CPA” for the third year in a row. He is a Partner in Hantzmon, Wiebel & Company, a Charlottesville, Va., CPA firm celebrating its 75th anniversary. He is also a CPA.

Phillip Shiflett ’74 was recognized by Virginia Business magazine as a “Super CPA” for the third year in a row. He is a Partner in Hantzmon, Wiebel & Company and a CPA.

Andrew Rudin ’79 launched the Web site for Outside Technologies Inc., a firm specializing in outsourced sales. He authored a white paper, available from the Web site, titled “Maximizing Revenue by Optimizing the Components of the Sales Process.” Outside Technologies is located in Vienna, Va.

Nancy Walker O’Neill ’81 and her husband, John, are thrilled to announce the birth of their son, Joseph William, born Dec. 4, 2003. He weighed 9 pounds, 14.2 ounces and stretched the tape measure to 22 inches.

David Linn Reynolds ’84 left UBS and joined Citigroup. He was with UBS and its predecessors PaineWebber and Kidder, Peabody for 14 years, having recently served as a Managing Director and running the Real Estate Investment Banking Group. In his new position in Citigroup’s Alternative Investments Group, he is focused on the creation of new real estate products, including proprietary funds, funds-of-funds, and feeder funds. These products will be sold to institutions, Citigroup’s private bank clients, and Citigroup’s high-net-worth retail clients.

Jeff Elgin ’85 (Master’s in MIT ’03), a Senior Information Technology Manager at Capital One and a member of the McIntire School Advisory Board, recently climbed Mount Rainier.

Viet Le ’86 and his wife, Barbara (A&S ’86), reside in Chantilly, Va., with their four children. Viet is a Sales Manager with MapInfo and serves as a deacon at Shepherd’s Heart Church in Fairfax, Va.

James A. Peischel ’88 (Master’s in Accounting ’89) was admitted to the partnership of KPMG LLP in October 2002 in Washington, D.C. His wife, Janice (Jan) Peischel ’88, also works at KPMG as a Senior Manager and the Primary Recruiter in the Washington, D.C., office.

Richard Coughlan ’89 was named Associate Dean for Graduate Business Programs at the University of Richmond (Richmond, Va.), where he has taught since 1998. He will also serve as Director of the M.B.A. Program in the Robins School of Business. 

Steve Finke ’89 and his wife, Danielle Farans Finke, welcomed their first child, a daughter, Kiley Mai, Nov. 24, 2002. Steve and family recently relocated from Arizona to Richmond, Va., where Steve works for Wachovia Securities.

Kelli Raflo Dalseide ’90 and her husband had their second child, a son, Dec. 16, 2002. Sam joins his big sister, Rebecca. The family resides in Richmond, Va.

Mark Smith ’90 and his wife, Holly, had their second child and first daughter, Margaret Emerson, Oct. 10, 2003. Maggie joins big brother, Nate. Mark is a Vice President with GE Corporate Financial Services in Atlanta.

Christopher D. Ray ’92 (Law ’95) and his wife, Kathy, welcomed their first child, Donovan, born Jan. 27, 2004. Says Chris, “Mom and baby are home and doing well.” The family lives in Dallas, where Chris is a Principal in the private equity firm Natural Gas Partners.

Glen Kacher ’93 and his wife, Amy, celebrated the birth of their first child, Thayer Patrick, born Oct. 23, 2003. The family lives in Palo Alto, Calif. 

Yuan Chou ’94 and his wife, Carolyn, welcomed their first child, Matthew Ethan, born July 19, 2003. The family resides in Bethesda, Md., where Yuan works for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Tiki Barber ’97 will address the Class of 2004 at Valediction Exercises May 15, 2004, on the Lawn at U.Va. Selected by the class to be its Valediction speaker, Barber is a star Running Back for the NFL’s New York Giants, who played in Super Bowl XXXV, in January 2001.

Courtney Givens Gotlin ’97 and husband Matthew Gotlin welcomed their first child, Jacob Theodore, July 16, 2003. The family resides in Baltimore.

Amy Savitsky ’97 and Carlos Fernandez-Touzon ’97 were married Oct. 17, 2003, in Fort Myers, Fla. The couple lives in Alexandria, Va., with their two shelties.

Chris Heckman ’98 and his wife, Christine, celebrated the birth of their son, Adam Bradley, born Oct. 29, 2003. Adam joins his big sister, Alexis, born in June 2002. The family resides in the Philadelphia area, where Chris works is Associate in Wachovia Securities’ Debt Restructuring Group. Chris is the Membership Chair of the McIntire Young Alumni Council.

Kendra Stribling ’98 has been promoted to Supervisor at Hantzmon, Wiebel & Company, one of Virginia’s largest CPA firms, in Charlottesville, Va. She is also a CPA.

Meredith (Lloyd) Childers ’99 married Adam Childers in Vienna, Va., Aug. 23, 2003. Meredith is a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young in McLean, Va. Adam is a Senior Associate at The Carlyle Group in Washington, D.C.

Assen Dragulev ’99 has been promoted to Supervisor at Hantzmon, Wiebel & Company, one of Virginia’s largest CPA firms, in Charlottesville, Va.

Rahsaan Matthews ’99 graduated with a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Georgia in August 2003. Rahsaan is now a Manager with Pre-Paid Legal Services.

Dave Chattleton ’00 and Christy Johnson ’00 were married Oct. 25, 2003. The couple resides in New York City, where Dave is an Associate with Morgan Stanley and Christy is a Senior Consultant at BearingPoint. Dave is the Social/Fundraising Chair of the McIntire Young Alumni Council.

Marin Graney ’02 owns Marin Rose Designs, designing and manufacturing elegant, luxurious handmade fabric handbags and purses for day and eveningwear. Marin’s designs will appear in the May 2004 Insider Magazine. This comes just after a feature in the fashion trade magazine Fashion Mannuscript. Says Marin, “In addition, in January, we were included in the first issue of Beautiful Girl. We are very excited about the attention we are getting and hope to continue to spread word of the company.”

Jenny Harmon ’02 is in Cape Town, South Africa, working for Business Beat, a nonprofit black empowerment initiative that helps black South Africans become entrepreneurs.

Patrice R. Stokes (Master’s in MIT ’02) left Richmond Public Schools in August 2002 as the Information Technology Manager to become the COO of her church, Saint Paul’s Baptist Church, which has more than 8,000 members and is steadily growing. She also serves as the President of the church’s incorporated entities, two of which are a child development center and a bookstore.

Anthony Cignarella ’03, a member of the McIntire Young Alumni Council, is pursuing an advertising career at McCann-Erickson in New York City. He travels in his spare time.

Stephanie Allen Deal ’03 passed the CPA exam in November 2003 and is on staff at Hantzmon, Wiebel & Company, one of Virginia’s largest CPA firms, in Charlottesville, Va.

David Meredith (Master’s in MIT ’03), Vice President of Global Solutions for the Communications, Media, and Entertainment group at American Management Systems, was interviewed and quoted extensively in various media outlets during the fall of 2003, discussing wireless number portability and the implications for customers and wireless and wireline companies. Media outlets included The Washington Post, New York Times Financial Wires, FOX News, and various radio stations.

Molly Schmidt ’03 is pursuing a career in advertising sales at News America Marketing, a division of News Corporation, in New York City.

Susan Gerock (Master’s in MIT ’04), Senior Director of Systems Integration and Support for CarrAmerica, was a speaker at a PeopleSoft Hosting Executive Webinar March 11, 2004. She will present on the same subject at a Peoplesoft user convention (Connect) in San Francisco in September 2004.
