Connecting to the VPN

  1. In order to use Outlook 2007 to connect to Exchange via MAPI, you must be either physically connected to the network in the McIntire school or using the McIntire VPN

Setting up your Outlook 2007 profile

  1. The first time you launch Outlook 2007 after installation, you will see a welcome screen.

     


     

  2. If you have already configured accounts in Outlook 2007, you may add additional accounts by selecting Tools / Email Accounts and choosing Add a new Email Account


     

  3. On the Account Configuration Screen click Yes and next.  On the auto configuration page, check the Manually Configure checkbox and choose next.

     


     

  4. On the next screen choose Microsoft Exchange as the E-Mail service type, click next.  On the following screen, enter mcintire6.comm.virginia.edu as the Exchange Server.  Enter your userid (e.g. ABC8D) as the UserName.  Click Next.

     


     

  5. If Prompted for credentials, enter MCINTIRE\UserID and your McIntire logon password.
     

  6. You are now set to use Outlook 2007.

     


     

  7. Remember, you must first connect to the McIntire VPN before using Outlook 2007 to check you mail.

Troubleshooting Outlook 2007 Connections

Possible Problem What to Check Solution Contact
I cannot send of receive mail Are you connected to the internet?  You must have an established internet connection before attempting to connect to the VPN server Connect to the Internet If your internet connection is down, contact your Internet Service Provider
Error: Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain. Check your userID and password carefully.  It is the same information used to log into webmail (https://webmail.comm.virginia.edu/exchange) Enter Correct Login Information McIntire Helpdesk (434) 924 7988 if you have forgotten your password
