CIA Triangle

Information Security can be considered in terms of the CIA triangle
Confidentiality
Keeping your Information Safe from prying eyes
Integrity
Making sure your data stays intact and correct
Availability
Ensuring your data is available when you need it.
 
Passwords

Passwords become less secure as they age, so we encourage you to change your password often.  Changing your password.

Passwords must be at least seven characters long and contain characters from at least four of the following five categories:  
English uppercase characters (A — Z)
English lowercase characters (a — z)
Base 10 digits (0 — 9)
Non-alphanumeric (For example: !, $, #, or %)
Unicode (space)

The password cannot contain three or more characters from the user's account name.

Sensitive Data

Sensitive Data such as student or staff personally identifiable information (PII) should be stored on network drives whenever possible.
If you use PII on your local Machine, use encryption.  Contact the helpdesk for help enabling this feature.
Email should never be used to transmit sensitive information.

! All machines physically connected to the University Network must register their MAC (Hardware) Address before they can access the internet.

McIntire owned machines must be registered by helpdesk personnel

Personal Machines may be registered by their owners.
ITC Network Registration

Guest speakers and presenters can obtain a PIN for network access from the helpdesk.
