William R. Hurt Mr. Hurt provides wealth management
and investment advisory services to high net worth clients, family
offices and institutional investors. He oversees the Capital Management
Group, a team of wealth management advisers located in Houston and
Colorado Springs with assets under management in excess of $400 million.
He personally manages $150 million for clients. He also manages the
Sanders Morris Harris Sports Group, which provides investment
management, contract representation and marketing services to
professional athletes.
He holds a Series 7 (General Securities Representative) License, a
Series 24 (General Securities Principal), a Series 63 License (Uniform
State Law), and a Series 65 License (Investment Advisor). Prior to
joining Sanders Morris Harris in May 2001, Mr. Hurt was a Senior Vice
President at the JPMorgan Chase Private Bank in Houston, Texas. From
1990 until 1998, he was an institutional oil and gas fund manager for
JPMorgan Investment Management involved in purchasing and managing a
portfolio of direct investments in domestic oil and gas properties. He
started his career in the financial services industry with Texas
Commerce Bank in 1981, where he worked with companies involved in the
energy industry and became Vice President & Division Manager of the
Energy Group. From 1982 until 1995 he was also responsible for the
management of a family owned oil and gas exploration company founded in
1952.
Notable transactions include structuring and leading the debt facility
to finance the expansion franchise NFL Houston Texans in 2001,
negotiating the sale of assets of the JPMorgan Petroleum Fund for 150%
of the value of the fairness opinion in 1998 and structuring the receipt
and payment of $3 billion settlement from Texaco to Pennzoil through
Texas Commerce Bank in 1987 during the same period in which three of the
four major banks in Texas failed.
Mr. Hurt is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds an M.B.A.
from the University of Houston. He serves as President of the Board of
Directors of Communities In Schools-Houston, a nonprofit
dropout-prevention program active in over 95 Houston area public schools
serving 35,000 at-risk children, Chairman of the Houston Texans Charity
Golf Classic, Vice President of the UVa Houston Alumni Club and Vice
President of the Board of Directors of River Oaks Country Club.
