R. Stribling Koster Jr. R. Stribling Koster Jr. is
Co-Head of the Basic Industries Investment Banking Group at Citigroup
Global Markets. Based in Chicago, Mr. Koster oversees the Firm's
investment banking calling efforts on all of the world's major metals
and mining and steel companies throughout North America, Europe, South
Africa, Australia, and Asia. From 1997 to 2001, he was Managing Director
and Head of the Global Metals and Mining/Steel Group at Salomon Smith
Barney.
From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Koster was Director and Head of the Metals and
Mining Group at Salomon Brothers, from 1990 to 1994 a Vice President,
Chicago Corporate Finance at Salomon Brothers, and from 1987 to 1990 an
Associate, Generalist Group, at Salomon Brothers.
Mr. Koster has worked on numerous capital raising and strategic
transactions in his 17 years with Citigroup and its predecessor firms,
including as adviser to WMC Ltd. on its current $7.3 billion takeover
offer from BHP Billiton, as adviser to Novelis on its $2.8 billion
recapitalization and spinoff from Alcan, as adviser to Anglo American
plc on the sale of its $1.2 billion stake in Gold Fields of South Africa
to Norilsk Nickel, as adviser to Alpha Natural Resources on its $644
million IPO, as adviser to Amax Gold on its $961 million sale to Kinross
Gold, as adviser to Fluor Corporation on its $2.1 billion spinoff of
Massey Energy, as adviser to Battle Mountain Gold on its $1.5 billion
merger with Hemlo Gold, as adviser to Cyprus Amax on the sale of its
coal assets to RAG International for $1.1 billion, and as adviser to
Getchell Gold on its $1.1 billion sale to Placer Dome.
Mr. Koster received his M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg School of
Management, Northwestern University in 1988 and a B.S. in Commerce from
the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in 1983.
Mr. Koster is a member of the Board of Trustees of Missouri Military
Academy in Mexico, Mo. Mr. Koster is also a member of the Racquet Club
of Chicago, the Glen View Club, and Farmington Country Club.
