Scott A. Reed Scott Reed is a Founding Partner of
BankCap Partners, a Dallas-based private equity firm that focuses on the
formation and funding of large capitalization start-up banks across the
United States. As a Partner at BankCap, Mr. Reed is responsible for
capital raising, transaction structuring, and ongoing oversight of
portfolio investments. Most recently, BankCap was involved in the
formation of Atlantic Capital Bank, an Atlanta-based commercial bank
that opened in 2007 with over $125 million in equity capital (making it
the largest bank start-up in U.S. history).
Before founding BankCap, Mr. Reed had a diverse career spanning
derivatives trading, consulting, investment banking, and corporate
strategy and planning. Starting his career as an options trader, he was
a trader for Swiss Bank Corporation, where he managed a diverse
portfolio while working on the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco.
Subsequent to graduating from business school, he worked for Bain &
Company, where he focused on corporate strategy formation and
implementation for numerous Fortune 100 companies. Mr. Reed then joined
Bear Stearns, working in the Financial Institutions Group and focusing
on mergers and acquisitions and debt capital markets transactions. He
then left Bear Stearns and became head of strategy and planning for
Carreker Corporation, a publicly traded financial technology company
based in Dallas.
Mr. Reed received his B.A. in History (1990) and his B.S. in Commerce
(1992) degrees from the University of Virginia. He received his master’s
degree in Business Administration from the Tuck School at Dartmouth
College (1998), where he was an Edward Tuck Scholar. Mr. Reed lives in
Dallas with his wife Kelly and their four sons – Alexander, Mitchell,
Shane, and Justin.
