Photograph Submissions Criteria
The McIntire Art and Commerce (MAC) project uses photography as a way to highlight the global experiences, travel, and homes of our community. We invite you to submit photographs that you have taken of places and people around the world and in the United States. The photographs may be of landscapes; buildings; people; and, of course, McIntire students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Your photographs will be reviewed by the McIntire Art Committee, composed of McIntire faculty and staff, as well as two young alumni who majored in art. Selected photos will be printed, framed, and displayed in the 200-level hallway of Rouss & Robertson Halls.
In August 2010, we unveiled the first photography exhibition in the 200-level hallway of Rouss & Robertson Halls. The 2011 exhibit is currently on display in the building; you can view it online by clicking on the “Fall 2011 Photography Contest Winners” link in the navigation bar to the left of this page. The MAC project is expected to continue, with a new set of artwork solicited, selected, and displayed annually.
How to Submit Your Photograph(s)
MAC will send out a call for photographs in late spring 2012, with an expected submission deadline of mid-July 2012 for the next exhibition. Display dates will roughly span fall 2012 to summer 2013.
MAC Photograph Submissions Criteria
1. You must be a McIntire student, faculty, or staff member to submit a photograph for consideration. Photographs taken by friends, spouses, or family members are not eligible.
2. Photographs must be submitted in digital format.
3. You may submit up to 5 photographs.
4. Photographs may be digitally altered using software such as Adobe Photoshop. It is recommended, but not required, that photographs be greater than 2 MB in size in order to ensure quality when enlarged.
5. The photograph submission deadline is to be determined in 2012, tentatively in mid-July.
6. By submitting your photograph(s), you agree to the following:
a. All submissions must by appropriate for viewing by members of any age, social, or ethnic group who are a part of or visiting the McIntire community. The photographs must support McIntire's commitment to diversity and inclusion. The decision of the committee is final, and committee members retain the right to reject any submission deemed inappropriate.
b. The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia may reprint submitted photographs without restriction in any type of media, including print and online. You will be credited as the photographer but will not receive any compensation for reprints.
About the MAC Project
Selection Process
The McIntire Art Committee will review all photographs submitted after each round deadline. The final photographs will be selected based on their composition, quality, and ability to communicate McIntire's mission. We will notify the photographers whose work will be exhibited by e-mail and request additional information in order to include a brief biography of the photographer next to his or her photograph(s). This biography will highlight each artist's experience and interest and connect the McIntire community. Each spring, the McIntire community may submit new photographs, and new photographs will be selected to be displayed.
Selection Committee
The McIntire Art Committee is a cross-organizational group from the student body, staff, and faculty. This year's selection committee includes Mandi Crisp, Peggy Ehrenberg, Leila Harris (A&S '10), Ben Jamieson, Jo Lawson, Sarah Ritzer, Bree Spriggs (A&S '09), Gerry Starsia, and Angie Turner. Launched in March 2010, the MAC project is expected to showcase the creative, artistic expression of the McIntire community for years to come.
