2012 Program Cost Comparisons

Note: This information is provided as an estimate and should be used only as a guide. Costs and exchange rates can change, and the host school is the best source of actual rates.

Di Tella is an exchange program.

All true exchange programs require students to pay tuition to UVA. Our exchange partners are the University of Bath [England]; University of Auckland [New Zealand]; HEC [Paris]; Di Tella [Argentina]; Peking University [Beijing]; Bocconi [Milan]; HKUST [Hong Kong]; ESADE [Barcelona]; University of St. Gallen [Switzerland]; and National University Singapore. Students will also have to have room and board, textbooks, and other items at the host institution, just as in Charlottesville. For sake of this comparison, costs at the host institution are assumed to be similar to Charlottesville expenses. Actual costs will vary more due to your “in-state” vs. “out-of-state” classification than for other factors.

For direct-enroll programs, DIS [Copenhagen]; Syracuse [Madrid], UVF [Madrid]; and UCD [Dublin], cost comparisons are made using rounded figures for tuition and housing. Adjustments were made to reflect the value of the meals provided in some programs (for meals provided in “home stays” in Madrid or Copenhagen or with dining hall meals in Italy) by adding $1,000 to the cost estimate. If you think you will eat more or less than this or plan to use a different housing option, please make adjustments as necessary.

All students will have extra expenses in the form of transportation to and from the international host institution, the UVA “leave for foreign credit” fee, and additional sightseeing travel once you have arrived at your university.

"Looking at the comparative costs in this table, the direct-enroll programs that provide the most extensive study tours are also the most expensive, reflecting the additional costs they incur and the additional experiences you will have," says Professor Brad Brown, McIntire Director of International Programs. "I think it is fair to say that the base costs of all the programs are roughly the same. Differences are probably not enough to be the primary factor in the choice of a study-abroad location. Choose based on your own desire for particular cultural experiences and based on how well the curriculum offered fits your own educational goals.'
