 Peking Overview

Peking University
Beijing, China

The McIntire School of Commerce and Peking University are offering third-year Commerce students an opportunity to study international business in Beijing during the spring 2012 semester.

Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to provide the essentials of the courses you would have taken at McIntire during this semester, so you will not fall behind your classmates who do not study abroad. The skills you develop and the experiences you have in this program will surely be a very valuable part of your total UVA educational experience. Peking course offerings are extensive, and all Commerce students will find a good selection of courses that interest them.

During the term abroad, students must complete four Peking offerings, for 12 UVA semester hours. In addition to those four courses, Commerce students must also complete the online UVA-taught Global Strategy and Value Enhancement course, which will result in four UVA credits for COMM 3040 being awarded by McIntire faculty and counting in your UVA GPA. Each student must complete at least two business courses from the course planning list. Those two courses will satisfy your COMM 3050 and 3060 requirements. Additional courses will satisfy appropriate Commerce School or University electives.

NOTE: UVA accepts transfer credit (no grades) for courses taken abroad; however, students must receive a grade of C or better on each course to transfer credit back to UVA.

Application Process

Online applications are available on the ISO Web site after reviewing the online Education Abroad Workshop information session. Commerce study-abroad information sessions are scheduled for Aug. 30 and 31, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Robertson Hall, Room 225.

Applications are due by midnight Sept. 21, 2011. Once admission is approved, students will be required to complete a program-specific application packet and attend several orientation sessions during the months of November and December.

Housing

On campus accommodation is currently NOT available due to the overwhelming demand. Our exchange students will arrange their own accommodations outside. GISA (Guanghua International Students Association) and the Office of International Relations will offer necessary information.

Off-campus housing rates range from U.S. $300 to $600 per month for one single room in a two-bedroom/three-bedroom apartment.
