Danish Institute for Study Abroad
Copenhagen, Denmark

Program Overview
The McIntire School of Commerce and the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) are offering third-year Commerce students an opportunity to study International Business in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the spring 2012 semester. The DIS program, with its rigorous, practical business curriculum, is highly respected around the world as a leader in study-abroad programs since 1959.
Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to provide the essentials of the courses you would have taken at McIntire during this semester, so you will not fall behind your classmates who do not study abroad. The skills you develop and the experiences you have in this program will surely be a very valuable part of your total UVA educational experience. HKUST course offerings are extensive, and all Commerce students will find a good selection of courses that interest them.
During the term abroad, students must complete four HKUST offerings, for 12 UVA semester hours. In addition to those four courses, Commerce students must also complete the online UVA-taught Global Strategy and Value Enhancement course, which will result in four UVA credits for Comm 3040 being awarded by McIntire faculty and counting in your UVA GPA. Each student must complete "Doing Business in the EU" to satisfy Comm 3050 and at least one additional business course from the course planning list to satisfy Comm 3060. Additional courses will satisfy appropriate Commerce School or University electives.
NOTE: UVA accepts transfer credit (no grades) for courses taken abroad; however, students must receive a grade of C or better on each course to transfer credit back to UVA.
Application Process
Online applications are available on the ISO Web site after reviewing the online Education Abroad Workshop information session. Commerce study-abroad information sessions are scheduled for Aug. 30 and 31, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Robertson Hall 225.
Applications are due by midnight Sept. 21, 2011. Once admission is approved, students will be required to complete a program-specific application packet and attend several orientation sessions during the months of November and December.
Housing
Students have a choice to live with a Danish host family, in a Kolleqium (dorm), in a privately arranged apartment with roommates, or in a shared apartment with Danish roommates.
