Setup Instructions for Mac OS X
From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.

From the System Preferences window, choose Network. Then, as shown below, click the plus sign in the lower left.

Next, click on Interface and select VPN. Select PPTP as the type of VPN connection you will be making. Give the connection a name (e.g., “McIntire VPN”) and select Create. Your final configuration just before selecting Create should appear as it does below:

Now select your new VPN connection on the left-hand side and enter the server address secure4.comm.virginia.edu if you are a student. If you are a faculty or staff member, use the server vpn.comm.virginia.edu. Once you have input the proper server name, input the username “MCINTIRE\UserID,” where "UserID" is your McIntire user name (e.g., amt5k).
Click Authentication Settings and select Password. Enter your McIntire password here.

Hit OK.
Next, select the Advanced button, and be sure that Send all traffic over VPN connection is checked, as below.

Hit OK.
Now, when you need to use the connection, simply connect to the Internet and hit the Connect button you see in the window you currently have open.
