Connecting to the McIntire Network
Connecting to McIntire's network provides you with access to the many resources available at the School of Commerce. The process varies depending on how you are connecting.
Connecting from an Off-Site Location
If you are attempting to connect to McIntire's network from outside of Rouss & Robertson Halls, you will need to use the McIntire virtual private network. A VPN creates a secure connection to McIntire's network that grants the user the priviliges and rights that the user would experience were he or she connected to the network from within Rouss & Robertson Halls.
Once the VPN is set up successfully, initiating that connection should run a script on your machine that will map your network storage locations (e.g., the F, G, R, or S drives) automatically. If you need instructions for how to do this manually, click here to learn how to map the F and G drives; click here to learn how to map the R and S drives.
After completing the steps described above, you should be successfully connected to McIntire's network. If you would like to set up an e-mail client for use with McIntire e-mail, check the How To section for instructions for Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, and Entourage.
Connecting to Rouss & Robertson Halls' Network
If you are inside Rouss & Robertson Halls with your own computer and would like to connect to the network, there are a couple of steps to follow.
ITC has implemented a wireless network called "Welcome to UVA Wireless," which your wireless card should pick up easily. Once connected to this wireless network, opening an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer 8 or Mozilla Firefox will direct you to the ITC network setup utility Web site. This Web site will allow you to download a program that will guide you through an automated setup of UVA's Cavalier wireless network.
Instructions on how to connect to Cavalier (or, in the event that you cannot set up access for Cavalier, Wahoo) are located here:
Once you are connected to Rouss & Robertson's network via the local Wi-Fi, you should be able to use any McIntire e-mail clients or your student drives. If for some reason you cannot, you may need to use the McIntire VPN, whose use is explained above, in conjunction with your Wi-Fi connection.
If you would like to set up an e-mail client for use with McIntire e-mail, check the How To section for instructions for Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, and Entourage. Instructions for mapping the R and S drives and the F and G drives can also be found there.
