Data Storage Solutions at McIntire

One of the most common problems brought to the McIntire Help Desk is lost data. It is not uncommon to experience a hard disk failure, or even to lose a USB drive altogether. There are many ways to experience the loss of information and, as a result, the McIntire technology team offers all faculty, staff, and students the option of saving their data on McIntire's file storage servers.  Data are backed up regularly and benefit from other services such as shadow copies so that recovery from accidental changes and deletions is possible in many instances.

Faculty and staff can store their data on their personal network drives, known collectively as the "F drive," where the data are protected from hardware failures through a RAID system. The F drive also can also serve as an off-site backup. Every member of the McIntire community is advised to learn about these network storage options and use them to his or her full advantage.
