Catherine Louise Szpindor

Catherine Louise Szpindor is Vice President of IT at Thomas Nelson Community College and former Vice President of IT Strategy and Enterprise Applications at Sprint Nextel. She has more than 30 years of industry experience at nationally recognized organizations, such as Georgia-Pacific Corporation, the Atlanta Journal and Constitution newspapers, Wachovia Bank, Farm Credit Bank, and the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company.  Ms. Szpindor holds an M.S. degree in Technology Management from Mercer University and a B.A. degree in Human Resource Management from Brenau University.
 
Ms. Szpindor joined Thomas Nelson Community College in 2007 and is responsible for providing technical support to more than 600 faculty and staff and approximately 14,500 students. She directs and manages network operations; server and PC support services; help desk; audiovisual and teleconferencing services; functional support for PeopleSoft applications; and Web services and provides technical support for distance learning.
 
During her tenure at the college, Ms. Szpindor has participated on a state task force to recommend emergency preparedness goals for all 23 community colleges in Virginia; implemented the Cisco digital multimedia messaging system; completed the plan for the 2008-2009 upgrade of the data cable infrastructure and VoIP at multiple campuses; implemented new parking management and ticketing software for campus police; managed the implementation of the E2Campus Emergency Alert system; and directed the completion of 31 significant projects to support student, faculty, and staff success.
 
Ms. Szpindor spent seven years at Sprint Nextel and Nextel Communications. She had responsibility for strategy; architecture; research and innovation; and process, methodology; quality assurance; pipeline management; compliance (SOX); and management reporting for the IT organization. In addition, she was responsible for the data warehouse/business intelligence, identity management, and middleware applications.
 
In 2005, Ms Szpindor was recognized by the Northern Virginia Chapter of Women in Technology as the Corporate Leader of the Year and was recognized as a candidate for the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year award. She was selected by the Oracle Corporation as the Business Intelligence Development Manager of the Year in 2004.
