Program Itinerary*

Depart for Copenhagen, Denmark, Friday or Saturday, May 2 or 3, 2008.

Day 1 – Sunday, May 4, 2008 – Arrival and Welcome to Copenhagen

1 - 2 p.m. ► Welcome & Registration

2 - 4 p.m. ► Sightseeing tour of Copenhagen, with Carsten Pape

5 - 7 p.m. ► Opening reception, overview of week, and introduction to DIS and region, with Dean Carl Zeithaml, Anders Uhrskov, and Ryan Nelson

Day 2 – Monday, May 5, 2008 – Geopolitical Context and Strategic Management of Innovation

8:30 a.m. ► Coffee served at the Danish Society for the Advancement of Business Education (FUHU)

9 - 10 a.m. ► Denmark Today, with Jacob Buksti; an overview of Danish politics and society

10 - noon ► Europe Today - Implications for Business, with Rasmus Tscherning; topics include European politics and EU policy areas: enlargement, single market, eEurope, i2010, and future scenarios

1 - 4 p.m. ► Managing Multinational Work Forces, with Susanne Hovmand; topics include European cultural differences, managing and negotiating across cultures, indicators of success in the expatriate experience

Evening ► Group dinner and survival Danish lesson, with Suzanne da Cunha Bang

Day 3 – Tuesday, May 6, 2008 – Strategic Management of Innovation

8:30 - 10:30 a.m. ► Site visit to the Danish Design Centre - Business, Innovation, Politics and Culture, with Rasmus Tscherning; topics include innovation/entrepreneurship/networks: design culture, implications for the workplace and individual, and the merger of design and IT

10:45 - noon ► Tivoli’s Vice President Andreas Veilstrup Andersen and Creative Director Eric Jany will talk about Innovation at Tivoli

1 p.m. - 5 p.m. ► The afternoon will focus on two issues: Zentropa as an example of innovation within the film industry, and Dramatic Innovation, the hallmark of Zentropa WorkZ. The main objective is to show how limitations, staging, and strictly choreographed processes can help spawn creativity and produce dramatic results within a specific time frame – both in film and innovation in general

Day 4 – Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - Global Business Strategy and Doing Business in the European Union

8:30 a.m. ► Coffee served at FUHU

9 a.m. - noon ► Global Business Strategy: European Approaches, with Anne Mette Christiansen; topics include international strategy, corporate social responsibility, and intercultural communication

1:30 - 5 p.m. ► Doing Business in the EU: Competition and Lobbying, with Niels Hald; tour of Carlsberg brewery and discussions with the CIO of Carlsberg

Day 5 – Thursday, May 8, 2008 – Globalization and Information Technology

8:30 a.m. ► Coffee served at Copenhagen Business School

9 a.m. - noon ► Rob Austin of Harvard Business School will present contemporary research on business innovation, including case examples on the role of IT.

1:00 - 5 p.m. ► Cross-cultural student interaction and a panel of European IT Leaders (including the CIO of Maersk).

Day 6 – Friday, May 9, 2008 - Globalization, Innovation, and Technology Mangement and Concluding Session

8:30 a.m. ► Coffee served at FUHU

9 a.m. - noon ►  Ryan Nelson and Mike Morris will lead a discussion on the week's themes of globalization, innovation, and technology management; regional case studies will be featured

1 - 4 p.m. ► Concluding session and wrap-up

Evening ► Concluding dinner

Day 7 – Saturday, May 10, 2008 - Optional Tours of the Viking Ship Museum and Roskilde Cathedral  Visit to the Viking Ship Museum and Roskilde Cathedral; historical and cultural excursion to the medieval town of Roskilde, former capital of Denmark, 15 miles west of Copenhagen

Those who are considering bringing a companion to Copenhagen may choose to purchase our companion package, which includes all the costs of attendance, meals, and transportation for the following events:

  • Sunday, May 4 – Guided tour of Copenhagen and opening reception at DIS headquarters

  • Monday, May 5 – Group dinner and survival Danish lesson

  • Friday, May 9 – Concluding dinner

Meals

  • Hotels in Copenhagen traditionally serve a light breakfast each morning. In addition, coffee and tea will be served every morning at our classroom facilities.

  • All lunches are included in the program price Monday through Friday, May 4-9, 2008.

  • Dinners and receptions are included in the price of the executive program Sunday, Monday, and Friday, May 4, 5, and 9, 2008.
