Module III: Enterprise IT Management

GComm 785 & 786 (6 credit hours) 

Module Leader: Glenn Browne

Note: The Northern Virginia section includes a one-week residency at end of this module.

Module leader’s course description:
Enterprise IT Management will examine the body of knowledge associated with managing the IT enterprise, including operations, enterprise systems, integration, business intelligence, and emerging IT. Students in the course will learn to:
 

  • Manage portfolios of IT projects
  • Effectively integrate information and operations across the enterprise
  • Harness organizational information for more effective decision making
  • Deliver a competitive advantage for organizations through effective use of IT

Current core technologies used:
Various emerging technologies, as selected by students; various data warehousing/BI software (e.g., MicroStrategy, Hyperion)

Description of projects or assignments included:
Two projects offer rich experiences with enterprise IT management. The group project requires students to dive deep into an emerging technology and learn how to evaluate it from a business value perspective. The individual project affords students an opportunity to learn about the portfolio management processes in place at his or her organization and to make recommendations about their own enterprise IT management portfolio.
