University of
Auckland Program Overview The McIntire School of Commerce and the University of Auckland are offering third-year Commerce students an opportunity to study international business in Auckland, New Zealand, during the 2008 spring semester. The University of Auckland is one of the premier universities in New Zealand. Living and learning in “one of the prettiest places on Earth” will be an experience you will never forget. Curriculum
The curriculum
is designed to provide the essentials of the courses you would have
taken at McIntire during this semester, so you will not fall behind your
classmates who do not study abroad. The skills you develop and the
experiences you have in this program will surely be a very valuable part
of your total UVa educational experience. Auckland course offerings are
extensive, and all Commerce students will find a good selection of
courses that interest them. During the term abroad, students must
complete 4-5 offerings for 12-15 UVa semester hours.
Among those 4-5 courses, Commerce students must complete the UVa-taught
"Global Strategy and Value Enhancement" course, plus at least two other
business core courses from the pre-approved list. Those three courses
will satisfy your Comm 304, 305, and 306 requirements.
Finance and Marketing
concentrators will be offered a special section of the required Comm 372
and/or Comm 353 in the fall of their fourth year.
Additional courses
may satisfy appropriate Commerce School or University electives. Application Process Online applications are available on the ISO Web site and are due Sept. 24, 2007. If space is available, additional applications will be approved on a rolling basis until Oct. 15, 2007. Once admission is approved, students will be required to complete a Auckland application packet and attend several orientation sessions during the months of November and December. Housing There are many options for housing in Auckland, including residence halls, family stays, or independent apartments. Academic Calendar Spring 2008
NOTE: There is ample time for travel during breaks or before the semester begins; however, classes and exams end later than at UVa. Degree Requirements
Any
non-business course will transfer as elective hours and satisfy
non-Commerce elective credits. Any student needing specific non-Commerce
courses for minors or majors in the College must get departmental
approval.
