Admission Requirements

The McIntire School of Commerce seeks to admit a class of well-rounded individuals who bring exceptional intellectual capabilities along with a passion for the study of management of IT. Admitted students are academically competitive; have successfully held positions of professional responsibility related to the management of information technology; and demonstrate qualities of character such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership. Factors such as diversity of perspective and functional expertise outside of IT may also be considered.

Minimum Requirements

  • An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. The MS MIT program accepts students from a range of undergraduate majors.

  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience that includes significant managerial or technical involvement with IT.

  • Non-native English speakers must also demonstrate strong oral and written English language skills. McIntire recommends a score of 620 (270 on the computer-based version) or above to be competitive for admission.

All applicants are considered without regard to age, color, disability, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or veteran's status.

Please keep in mind that an admission to the MS MIT program is competitive. Decisions are made based on completed application packages, including the application form, honor statement, official transcripts of all academic work, resume, essays, two letters of recommendation, official copies of GMAT score or an approved GMAT waiver, and official TOEFL score, if applicable. We invite you to take advantage of our Graduate Admissions Services to learn more about the program and our admissions process.

*McIntire welcomes applications from men and women from countries other than the United States. Obtaining student visas can be a lengthy process. International candidates should apply as early as possible and no later than Dec. 15.
