Prerequisites
Below is the suggested course of study for your first two years at the
University if you
plan to apply to the McIntire School of Commerce.
The course of study names specific courses at the University of Virginia, but
course descriptions should help students at other institutions select courses
that meet McIntire requirements. If you are currently enrolled at another institution, it is strongly recommended that
you complete all prerequisites.
A minimum of 54 hours to include the following courses must be completed before entering the McIntire School of Commerce:

(1) Students transferring from other colleges and universities
should consult with McIntire's Office of Student Services regarding
appropriate transfer courses; generally an introduction to business
course and computer applications course will be accepted as meeting
the requirement. Students planning to concentrate in IT are encouraged
to complete a computer programming course.
(2) Students planning to concentrate in Finance
are strongly encouraged to complete additional elective coursework in
mathematics, particularly if they received AP or transfer credit for
the math requirement.
(3) Requirements as defined in the Record,
College of Arts & Sciences. Three additional hours of humanities
along with 3 hours of social, natural/physical sciences will be
required before graduation and may be taken either before or after
entering the McIntire School. Students are encouraged to take courses
that emphasize oral and written communication skills as well as
courses that emphasize moral reasoning and ethics.
(4) Foreign language
prerequisites may be completed by transfer during the summer before enrollment. |

Although students may take non-Commerce
courses on a credit/no-credit basis before entrance to the McIntire School,
the Admissions Committee recommends that all required courses be taken for a
letter grade. The English composition requirement (ENWR 110) and the foreign
language requirement are waived for students exempted by other schools at the
University. (Echols Scholars are NOT exempt on the basis of Echols standing.)
