20^th Annual Commerce Career Day

On Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, U.Va. students will have the opportunity to network with more than 100 organizations during Commerce Career Day (CCD). More than 1,000 students attend Commerce Career Day each year.

As the first on-Grounds career fair open to all U.Va. students, CCD provides employers and students an advantageous networking opportunity before the onset of fall recruiting. For the first time this year, CCD will be held at the John Paul Jones Arena.

Company booths will be set up in John Paul Jones Arena from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Commerce Career Day to promote internship and full-time opportunities with U.Va. students. (Employers interested in establishing or enhancing their company presence on Grounds benefit tremendously by attending CCD!)

Panel Discussions

In addition to the career fair, panel discussions will be held in Rouss & Robertson Halls Thursday evening before CCD, allowing employers and students to converse on multiple industry- and career-related topics, such as the following:

• Advertising, consulting

• Corporate finance and accounting

• Information technology

• Investment banking

• Marketing

• Public accounting

• Careers off the beaten path

Students, Network One-on-One with an Employer

Students can take advantage of the unique networking opportunity gained as a student host for CCD. This assistance contributes significantly to the success of this event.

2008 Searchable Database of Participating Organizations (to come)

Students will be able to search CCD participants and their employment opportunities by industry, position available (full-time versus internship), position location, and concentration/major of interest.

Students, Make the Most of Career Day

Ever wonder how to approach a potential employer or to best prepare for a career fair? This student handout will provide you with helpful suggestions for making the most of CCD or other career fairs.
