 Marketing Your Strengths

Marketing Your Strengths

Competitive job seekers always search for ways to distinguish themselves to employers. International students often possess distinctive attributes and qualifications that may prove especially compelling to employers active in the global marketplace.

As an international student, take time to reflect on your unique skills, background, and experience and incorporate relevant characteristics into your personal brand. These characteristics may include:

  • Personal strengths such as resiliency, adaptability, flexibility, perseverance, self-discipline, resourcefulness, curiosity, graciousness, endurance, loyalty, and intrepidness.
  • A strong capacity for learning and applying new knowledge, as evidenced by rapid acquisition of formal language skills, slang terminology, cultural norms, and North American academic and business customs.
  • A history of high achievement and intellectual promise starting at a young age. Seasoned in the art of setting and meeting goals and  highly motivated to be successful.
  • Ability to broaden diversity efforts with well-developed cross-cultural fluencies.
  • Valuable connections overseas already in place or that can be developed. May be multilingual and have direct experience living, studying, and working in a foreign country.
