Network

Professional networking is a very important component of the U.S. job search process, and McIntire and UVA affords international students many resources to establish networking contacts and practice networking techniques. In simple terms, networking in the United States involves exchanging information, ideas, and support to enhance and further careers.

Effective networking is an optimum method to:

  •  Become educated about occupations, industries, and companies
  •  Secure an externship, internship, or a full-time job
  •  Learn and stay current about market conditions and trends
  •  Develop and advance in your career

Peruse our detailed networking section and handouts to learn more about networking. In addition, international students are strongly encouraged to:

  • Network with UVA alumni who are working and/or residing in their country of origin. Search for contacts on HoosOnline/UCAN (University Career Assistance Network) (Click here for instructions on how to sign up with HoosOnline.)
  • Become familiar with UVA Alumni Clubs, which have been established in several locations around the globe. Consider attending an alumni function when you are visiting home during a holiday break or during the summer. Alums enjoy visiting with students and learning about current activities at UVA!
  • Consider joining McIntire’s student organization, Global Connect at McIntire, which is open to both international and non-international students seeking to expand their global network and share career-related information.
