Excerpts from Vic Motto's Interview with Robert Mondavi

"Wine to me is a passion. It's family and friends. It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It's culture. It's the essence of civilization and the art of living."

"My own philosophy of life starts with some very basic things. These are the foundation: You need common sense, a commitment to hard work, and most of all, the courage to go your own way. On top of this foundation there are ... other qualities that have served me well. These are the basic components of my philosophy for success."
Mondavi's philosophy of life, excerpts from Harvests of Joy

"A last bit of philosophy: For many years I would say 'change with the changing times.' By changing and adjusting in wine production, sales and marketing, we made progress. Now as I look back I see that we did more than just change; we improved as we were changing. This is a most important difference, indeed a crucial one in these competitive times. I strongly believe our country should be known not only for its strength and technology, but also for its culture, its quality of life and its civilization."

"Jefferson encouraged the development of a wine industry in America, and we are still working to make his vision a reality."
