Areas of Expertise:
Professor Abbasi's research interests relate to data mining, text mining, and information visualization. His work focuses on the development and evaluation of novel technologies for enhanced analysis of computer-mediated communication and improved online security and fraud detection. He teaches courses in electronic commerce, analytics, systems development, and data networks.
Professional Activities:
Professor Abbasi's research has appeared in MIS Quarterly; Journal of Management Information Systems; ACM Transactions on Information Systems; IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering; IEEE Intelligent Systems; IEEE Computer; Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication; Information Technology and Management; and Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, among other publications. His work on Internet fraud detection has been funded by the National Science Foundation. He is a member of the Association for Information Systems and IEEE. Before joining the McIntire School of Commerce, he served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
