Areas of Expertise:
Professor Overstreet offers courses in corporate financial management and real estate investment and finance. His major research and consulting interests include valuation measurement and management for private firms—particularly those with specialized real assets—and the use of operational research techniques in financial management. His research in credit scoring has received international recognition.
Professional Activities:
Professor Overstreet developed and taught strategic financial planning seminars to more than 1,000 petroleum distributors through the Petroleum Marketing Education Foundation. He has served as academic director of the Consumer Bankers Association Graduate School of Bank Management and has taught at numerous banking schools.
His consulting and executive education clients include the U.S. Department of Justice; the American Bar Association; the Association of Credit Union League Executives; the Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina Credit Union Leagues; Citicorp; NationsBank; Exxon; Chevron; Mobil; Marathon; Union Oil; Milliken; British Petroleum; and numerous credit unions and private firms. He has served as a board member on several private firms, including two recent University of Virginia start-ups.
His portfolio of research includes numerous cases, monographs, and refereed articles that have appeared in the following journals: Journal of Bank Research; Journal of Retail Banking; Journal of Commercial Bank Lending; Journal of Risk and Insurance; Journal of Insurance Regulation; Journal of Real Estate Research; Cornell Quarterly; Credit Union Executive; Long Range Planning; IMA Journal of Mathematics Applied in Business and Industry; Journal of Financial Education; Journal of Case Research; European Journal of Operations Research; and Journal of the Operational Research Society.
Professor Overstreet was inducted into the Raven Society in 2009 and elected to the society’s Governing Council the same year.
