Areas of Expertise:

Professor Carter specializes in strategic management accounting, especially activity-based cost management (ABCM), the balanced scorecard, and the management of accounting’s interface with total quality management. His current research focuses on ABCM in for-profit service entities and the balanced scorecard in nonprofit service entities.

Professional Activities:

Professor Carter has consulted with business and industry and served on the editorial boards of Journal of Accounting Education and the education section of The Accounting Review. He has published papers on financial accounting, management accounting, accounting theory, accounting education, marketing, and finance and cases on strategic management accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, and business policy/strategy.
