Barbara Haley Wixom
Associate Professor
of Commerce Office phone: 434-924-8981 Education: Ph.D., Business Administration, Terry College of Business, University of Georgia Areas of Expertise: Professor Wixom is a data warehousing and business intelligence specialist. Her current research focuses on data warehousing and business intelligence success, business value, and emerging trends. She teaches courses in data management and data warehousing. Professional Activities: Professor Wixom is an associate editor of Business Intelligence Journal, a research fellow of The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), and an executive director for the Teradata University Network. She has served as a best practice judge for competitions at TDWI and DM Review. She has published in such journals as Information Systems Research; MIS Quarterly; MIS Quarterly Executive; and Journal of MIS and has presented her work at national and international conferences. Professor Wixom has worked with a variety of organizations, including Continental Airlines, Sherwin-Williams, 3M, Carlson Hospitality, Owens & Minor, First American Corporation, Whirlpool, and IRS, and three of her case studies have won international awards from the Society for Information Management for innovation in information technology. Professor Wixom is the author of two leading systems analysis and design textbooks, which are published by John Wiley & Sons. She also is the recipient of an All-University Teaching Award (2002), which recognizes professors’ teaching excellence and particularly those professors who inspire and motivate students.
