Areas of Expertise:

Professor Broome’s expertise is in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, financial analysis, and professional examinations. He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate financial reporting and analysis courses at the McIntire School and at the Law School. His primary research interests are in the content and analysis of financial statements. He has lectured in numerous professional development and executive programs for accountants, financial analysts, bankers, and other groups in the United States, Switzerland, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia.

Professional Activities:

Professor Broome’s professional experience includes six years as executive director and trustee of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (now the CFA Institute). For two years, he was chairman of the College for Financial Planning and on the board of directors of the College for Financial Planning—United Kingdom. He has also chaired the CPA Examination Review Board and served on the national CPA Board of Examiners, the Investment Analysis Standards Board, the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and the Examinations Committee for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. He has had visiting professor appointments at Duke University, The University of Texas at Austin, Lancaster University (United Kingdom), and Tulane University. Professor Broome currently serves as a member of the Virginia Board of Accountancy, which regulates CPAs and public accounting firms in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
