Areas of Expertise:

Ms. Leonard teaches University seminars on diversity, women in management, and balancing career and family and conducts various workshops for students. Her background is in sales management, with a special focus in marketing strategy, and her administrative responsibilities and research are focused on issues in higher education, such as curriculum design, undergraduate advising, recruitment, and retention. She is particularly interested in issues related to minority recruitment, women in higher education, and strategies for balancing work and family.

Professional Activities:

Ms. Leonard has completed coursework toward a doctorate degree in higher-education administration and has completed papers and presentations related to higher-education issues. Working papers include “Women in Higher Education: Can They Have It All?” and “Why Is Business Losing Its Appeal: An Attitude Survey of First and Second Year Students at the University of Virginia.” Ms. Leonard has presented at the Undergraduate Business School Dean’s Conference and at the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business Undergraduate Programs Seminar on the following topics: “Co-Curricular Activities in Business Schools,” “Minority Recruitment and Retention,” and “Integrating Business School Curriculums.” Ms. Leonard also participates in several University committees and professional organizations. She serves on the University Admissions Committee, the University Athletic Advisory Council, and the University Women's Center Advisory Committee. She is a member of the McIntire Admissions Committee and the McIntire Undergraduate Programs Committee. She has served on the State Executive Committee for the American Council on Education, Virginia Network of Women Leaders in Higher Education.
