Marcia Lynne Pentz Lecturer, General Faculty Office phone: 434-924-1412 Education: M.A., English, University of Virginia Areas of Expertise: Ms. Pentz teaches management communication with an emphasis on effective public speaking, business writing, and communication strategy. She has particular interests in business ethics, communication and diversity, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches to communication, teaching the management of others’ writing, and coaching public speaking. Professional Activities: Ms. Pentz is finishing her Ph.D. in English/American Literature at the
University of Virginia. She teaches courses in management communication,
public speaking, globalization, and corporate social responsibility and
provides workshops on leadership communication, effective public
speaking, and classroom management. She has taught in the Jefferson
Scholars Leadership Institute and with the School of Engineering &
Applied Science’s Rodman Scholars Program. In the past, she served as an
academic counselor and mentor for Division I student-athletes in the
Office of Academic Affairs/Athletics at the University of Virginia. Her
research interests focus on 19th century constructions of masculinity,
specifically male ethical codes of commerce and competence as
promulgated through popular literature and theatrical/entertainment
culture. Her other research interests include adapting theater
strategies in the classroom/workshop to enhance group dynamics and to
teach presentation and public speaking skills. |
