Sample Opportunities for Sponsor-Level Involvement

Women's Business Forum
This student-run forum provides an open forum to discuss issues that are unique to gender and to explore the challenges faced in work and family relationships.

Minority Business Leadership Conference
This conference, organized by the Black Commerce Student Network, spotlights various aspects of the business world, raising awareness of business opportunities and strengthening students’ skills. Students from across the University of Virginia as well as students from neighboring schools are invited to attend.

Third-Year Block-Building Day
Students in a competitive business school need a break once and a while. This annual kickball tournament is a non-academic, non-career-oriented activity aimed to promote team spirit and fun!

COMM 200 "Business Skills for Today’s Workplace"
McIntire has developed a new course for second-year minority students to enhance business skills and career preparation as they enter an increasingly competitive job market. The Corporate Sponsor is invited to participate in class, teaching the students about a wide variety of topics, including interviewing, resume writing, business communication, career exploration, corporate culture and diversity issues.

Third-Year Orientation/McIntire Mentor Program
Third-Year Orientation is a one-day event held the day before classes begin. New students meet with student mentors and faculty members in the blocks in which they are enrolled. Time is spent interacting and sharing information related to curriculum issues and student services.

Integrated Core Experience (ICE)
The ICE curriculum develops integrated analytical, strategic, and behavioral skills. ICE addresses real business problems and projects over the entire year, eliminating artificial functional constraints, overlap, and redundancy. ICE also examines global, technological, communication, ethical, and data management issues. The ICE Sponsors' executives each work closely with 80 third-year students to develop a business plan.

American Advertising Federation Competition Curriculum Sponsorship
Fourth-year McIntire marketing concentrators are offered two advertising campaigns courses. "Promotional Strategy," offered in the fall, introduces students to advertising and integrated marketing communications. The spring advertising campaigns course builds on principles learned in the fall and is designed to allow students to develop an advertising campaign for the American Advertising Federation (AAF) client case, as well as explore the world of advertising in greater depth.

CommerceUVa
CommerceUVA, an award-winning full-color magazine, is the School’s flagship publication. It serves as the principal vehicle for communicating with a 15,000+ audience, including alumni, corporations, friends of the School, and other institutions of higher learning. Sponsorship is offered on an annual basis. Exclusive full-page ad available.

Weekend at McIntire
The McIntire School hosts Corporate Sponsor representatives and their guests in the School’s skybox at home football games. The Corporate Sponsor has access to 12 seats in the suite that may be used by Sponsor executives, clients, and/or recruits and are joined by McIntire faculty and other guests. In addition, on the Friday preceding the game, the Sponsor may host recruiting events at McIntire and is invited to an informal lunch with the Dean and selected faculty.

Invitational Golf Outing and Women’s Golf Clinic
The Invitational Golf Outing is a yearly tournament in the spring open to all third- and fourth-year McIntire students, faculty, alumni, and corporate representatives. The Women’s Golf Clinic precedes the golf outing and offers McIntire women an opportunity to become more comfortable on the course.

COMM 273 "Personal Investment Analysis"
The "Personal Investment Analysis" curriculum is taught by Commerce faculty to non-Commerce students interested in pursuing careers in business. The program covers all functional areas of personal finance–basic investment principles, foreign exchanges, and research and performance evaluation of a variety of funds.
