Global Immersion (Spring II)

By working and studying within an international context, students develop a better understanding of the social, economic, and cultural dynamics affecting global organizations. Each immersion experience offers students additional depth within their functional area of concentration while providing an opportunity to create a tailored experience through the capstone project course. The global immersion project is held for six weeks between mid-May through the end of June.  

The McIntire School of Commerce has partnered with some of the most dynamic universities and organizations within the leading global business centers in Europe and Asia. Faculty at the host institution will teach six of the nine credit hours required during the term.  Host institutions to date are:

A McIntire faculty member will join students for a major portion of the residency in each location and will teach and oversee the capstone project course. Students from both tracks may choose either Europe or Asia as their global immersion project destination.


Financial Service Track Sample Projects

  • A comparison of the financial services regulatory environments in the United States and China and the implications of those regulatory environments for firms trading in each market.
  • An analysis of the capital markets and industry trends in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
  • A valuation exercise involving a multinational corporate transaction or investment decision, perhaps through an investment banking or private equity relationship.
  • Development of a capital market trading or investment strategy, perhaps through an investment bank or hedge fund relationship.


Marketing & Management Track Sample Projects

  • Development of a marketing campaign for a major health care product company in Asia.
  • An analysis and recommendations for improving fundraising opportunities for a European museum.
  • Recommendations for process improvements for a consumer product firm in Asia.
  • Development of a marketing campaign for a new film being produced in Europe.
