International Students
An international applicant is anyone who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application to the University of Virginia. The following information is provided to assist international students in the admissions process and to assist admitted students as they transition to the University of Virginia.
International students are encouraged to submit their application as early as possible to allow ample time to apply for a student visa if admitted. We strongly recommend international students apply by the Jan. 15, 2009, deadline. International applicants should allow an extra 2-4 weeks for their admissions applications to be processed.

Student language consultants are native speakers of English who are interested in getting to know international students, staff, and scholars. Once you arrive at the University, they offer you the opportunity to practice your English, learn more about U.S. culture, and make new friends. Most conversation groups will consist of one student language consultant and 1-2 international students, staff, or scholars. Conversation groups meet 1 hour per week beginning in September until the last week of classes for the fall semester.
