McIntire congratulates the team of Manya Cherabuddi (McIntire ’13), Louis Hennet (Engineering ’13), Tom Licitra (M.S. in Commerce ’12), Sarah Pichardo (M.S. in Commerce ’12), and Christopher Rannefors (McIntire ’13), who won the 13th Annual Navigant-McIntire Case Competition, which took place Feb. 16-17, 2012. The winning team took home a $2,000 first-place prize. Avery Chew (A&S ’14), Grace Chuang (A&S ’14), Ryan Junliang Ho (A&S ’15), Matthew Tse (McIntire ’13), and Kevin Wong (McIntire ’13) placed second in the event, winning $1,000. Two teams also placed as runners-up, each winning $250.

Playing the roles of Navigant consultants, 11 student teams developed solutions for a financial services firm that had acquired a subprime lender just before the financial collapse of 2008, analyzing exposure and considering possible liquidation and bankruptcy of the troubled subprime business.

McIntire Professor Cynthia Fraser, faculty adviser for the Consulting Group at McIntire, which plans, organizes, and hosts the annual event, said the Navigant-McIntire Case Competition is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about consulting. The event also gives the officers in the student organization valuable experience as management consultants, she added.

On Grounds to judge the competition and add insight into the consulting process were Navigant representatives Joanne Fung, Jeff Green (McIntire ’88), Sarah Sherman (McIntire ’10), Jennifer Spurgeon (A&S ’10), Kevin Stephens (McIntire ’91), and Jamie Wohlert (McIntire ’05).

Special thanks to Mike Atchison, Tony Baglioni, Gigi Kelly, and Craig Lefanowicz for their support as faculty judges, and to Assistant Director of Corporate Information and Communications Jenny Leslie for her behind-the-scenes assistance.
