An Historic Day at the McIntire School of Commerce

For the McIntire School of Commerce, Friday, April 25, 2008, was a day of big events and big ideas. In a sunny noontime ceremony held on the Lawn, the School officially dedicated its state-of-the-art new home in Rouss & Robertson Halls. The 132,000-square-foot Robertson Hall adjoins historic Rouss Hall, creating a 156,000-square-foot academic complex on the Lawn.

Speaking at the ceremony, to an audience of hundreds of students,
faculty, staff, and alumni, were President John Casteen; McIntire
Dean Carl Zeithaml; John A. Griffin (McIntire ’85), principal
building donor and longtime friend to the McIntire School; and
Julian Robertson, the financier for whom the new building was named,
at Griffin’s request. Fourth-year student Brian Gavron (McIntire

On the same day, the School also hosted its Eighth Annual Spring
Symposium, “Leading in a Connected World,” which featured the work
of McIntire Professor Rob Cross. Cross, a management professor who
heads the highly influential Network Roundtable at the University of
Virginia, spoke at length on the hidden power of social networks.
Through the Roundtable, Cross has worked with more than 120
companies in industries as wide-ranging as consulting,
pharmaceuticals, software, manufacturing, chemicals, and government.

Joining Cross for a panel discussion of his network research in action were Tracy Cox, Director of Performance Consulting, Raytheon Professional Services LLC; Ted Graham, Practice Associate, McKinsey & Company; John Helferich, Executive-in-Residence, the College of Business Administration at Northeastern University, and Batten Fellow, the Darden School of the University of Virginia; and Lisa Vertucci, Managing Director, Global Head of Talent Development, Lehman Brothers.
