Navigant-McIntire Case Competition winners with Navigant's Jeffrey Yushchak and Jessica Wilson. |
McIntire congratulates the team of Ian Buchanan (McIntire ’09),
Vineet Mehta (McIntire ’08), Vu Nguyen (McIntire ’09), Jay Schafer
(McIntire ’09), and Michael Underhill (Engineering ’09), who won the
Ninth Annual Navigant-McIntire Case Competition, which took place
Feb. 21-22, 2008. The winning team took home a $2,000 first-place
prize. Phillip Deneault (McIntire ’09), Yu Pan (McIntire ’09),
Jongmin Sung (McIntire ’09), Simon Tsao (Engineering ’09), and Wei
Wang (Engineering ’08) placed second in the event, winning $1,000.
Playing the roles of Navigant consultants, 11 student teams were
asked to explore how a firm that designs, develops, manufactures,
and markets high-performance integrated circuits should respond to
its largest customer, who recently launched a competing, lower-cost
integrated-circuit product that possibly infringed on the firm’s
patents. Assessing the net present value of multiple decision
scenarios, students addressed the strategic, market, financial, and
relationship considerations for licensing, litigation, and buyout
possibilities. After presenting their recommendations to Navigant
representatives and McIntire faculty, student teams were judged
based on the quality of their analyses and presentation skills.
Navigant representatives included Matt Hartley (McIntire ’07), Steve
LaPenna, James Moore (McIntire ’03), Jackie Naso (McIntire ’07),
Blair Weih (McIntire ’07), Jessica Wilson (McIntire ’99), Jeffrey
Yushchak, and Samantha Zyontz.
A special thanks to Professors Tony Baglioni, Rich DeMong, Cynthia
Gasman, and David C. Smith for their support as faculty judges.
Two teams also placed as runners-up, each winning $250.
