MORE ABOUT THE DEAN'S MOVE TO THE LAWN IN CAVALIER DAILY
Dean
Carl Zeithaml will be the first Dean of the McIntire School of Commerce
to reside on the Lawn. Zeithaml succeeds retired Senior Vice President
for Development Ernest Ern this summer as the 11th resident of Pavilion
X.
"I'm
thrilled with the honor and opportunity that it presents for the
School and my family," Zeithaml said. Zeithaml, his wife, Charlotte,
and their children are excited about their move to this historic
location.
"The
Lawn is the center of the University, and it symbolizes the values
that are great about U.Va.," he said. "We will maintain the tradition
of an open pavilion by inviting students and alumni to visit us
often."
Charlotte
Zeithaml met with Murray Howard, Curator of the Academical Village,
to discuss the history of Pavilion X and the furnishings and decorations
appropriate to the pavilions. Although residents have considerable
latitude in furnishing pavilions, Mrs. Zeithaml looks forward to
emphasizing the traditional 19th century look in the public areas
of Pavilion X.
"We
are excited about the challenges that all pavilion residents confront
in furnishing their historic homes," said Mrs. Zeithaml. "For example,
because Pavilion X has few closets, we need to find large wardrobes.
We must select appropriate wall colors and furniture that work well
in the very spacious rooms."
The
objective of the University's restoration program is to create an
atmosphere that harks back to the University's beginning. The University
is seeking contributions of appropriate antique furnishings and
is pursuing funds to acquire furniture and high-quality reproductions
and to support restoration of the pieces now on the premises. McIntire
alumni are invited to participate in creating the historic atmosphere
of Pavilion X.
