William Chorey ’74 reports that his second child, Kendall P. Chorey, will enter the University of Virginia in fall 2005 and will be in the Class of 2009. His son
William Chorey Jr. (A&S ’03) recently graduated from Virginia and was a U.Va. cheerleader. Says Chorey, “Kendall is an honors student at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, in Suffolk, Va., and is looking forward to joining the ‘Chorey legacy’ at the best University in America!”
Larry Martin ’74 was recognized by Virginia Business magazine (November 2004 issue) as a “Super CPA” in the field of Individual, Trust and Estate Work. Larry is a Partner in the Charlottesville, Va., CPA firm of Hantzmon Wiebel.
Phil Shiflett ’74 was recognized by Virginia Business magazine (November 2004 issue) as a “Super CPA” for Assurance Services. Phil is a Partner in Hantzmon Wiebel.
Steven D. Westphal ’77 has been named Senior Vice President and CFO of Charlotte, N.C.-based Coca-Cola Bottling Co.
Consolidated, self-described as “the nation's second largest Coca-Cola bottler with franchise territories in 11 Southeastern states.” Westphal had been the Controller at Coca-Cola Consolidated since 1987. Prior to that, he was Vice President, Planning at Joyce Beverages, a New York-based soft drink distributor, from 1985 to 1987. From 1981 to 1984, he worked with Mid Atlantic Coca-Cola as Director of Planning. Westphal began his career in public accounting with Ernst & Young.
Robert W. Harris ’79 has been named CFO of Life Balance Media LLC. The company, based in New York City, recently purchased Wisdom Television and the Wisdom Radio service on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Peter Dunne ’80, President of Franklin/Trade Graphics, in Miami,
and a member of the McIntire School Advisory Board, announces that the company is the recipient of the 2005 Business of the Year Award sponsored by
South Florida Business Journal, in the General Business Services, $10-$25 million category, and was the only printing company recognized. More than 140 companies from South Florida were considered for awards in 18 categories. Also, for the fifth consecutive year, Franklin/Trade Graphics won more Printing Association of Florida awards for printing excellence in 2004 than any large printer in Florida. And, in the 2004 Printing Industries of America international competition, with 4,400 entries from graphic arts firms, the company won a “Benny,” representing the Best of Category award.
Christine Vlahcevic ’84 is Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller at LandAmerica Financial Group Inc., effective Jan. 1, 2005. Since October 2000, Vlahcevic served as Controller of Chesapeake Corporation. Before joining Chesapeake as a senior financial manager, Vlahcevic held numerous accounting and financial management positions at AMF Bowling, Fort James Corporation, and Hat Brands. She began her career in 1984 with Coopers & Lybrand, before serving as a staff accountant with the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1991 to 1993. Vlahcevic is a member of Financial Executives International and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and serves on the Controller’s Executive Roundtable at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Marc Lipson (A&S ’82, Master’s in Accounting ’85) joined the faculty of the University’s Darden Graduate School of Business in the fall of 2005. After working briefly as a public accountant, Lipson earned a doctorate in finance at the University of Michigan and then joined the faculty at the University of Georgia. He and his family are looking forward to their return to Mr. Jefferson’s University.
Walter B. Doggett III ’87 recently accepted a new position as Corporate Tax Director at Chevy Chase Bank in Bethesda, Md. He and his wife, Joanne, reside in Baltimore.
Johnnie Vrana ’91 (Master’s in MIS ’95) started his own software consulting company, CRM Open LLC. He supports customers left behind in the wake of the JDEdwards/PeopleSoft/Oracle mergers. Vrana lives in Charlotte, N.C., with his wife, Heather, and sons, Hunter and
Jaggar.

Maria Natale Beem ’92 and her husband, Mike, had their first child and son, Cameron Michael, May 9, 2004. He weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 21 inches long. Mrs. Beem is Senior Manager of Corporate Applications at Manugistics Inc. and helps with business aspects of the couple’s jewelry store, M. Beem Jewelers, in Reston, Va. The couple resides in McLean, Va.
Christine Sherron Markowitz ’92 has been hired as Controller for WWBT/NBC12, in Richmond, Va. Her responsibilities include oversight of the financial and business operations of the television station. Originally from Richmond, Markowitz was most recently the Controller for Ward North America in San
Diego.

Panos Boudouvas ’95 and his wife, Cate Kelly, celebrated the birth of their baby, born Oct. 6, 2004. Says Boudouvas, “Maria ('Mia') joined us in good health and spirits. We are still in New Canaan, Conn.”
Gail (Pinsky) Rand ’95 and husband, Colin, joyfully announce the birth of their second child, Chloe Elisabeth, born Sept. 24, 2004. The family resides in Annapolis, Md.
Adam Bergman ’96 relocated to Roanoke, Va., to become Vice President of Investor & Media Relations for Advance Auto
Parts. Bergman recently earned a postgraduate certificate in investor relations through the University of California, Irvine. He and his wife, Nikki, are expecting their first child in September 2005.
Brad Garrett ’95 and Erin (Ready) Garrett ’96 welcomed their second child, Tyler Addison, born April 7, 2005. Tyler joins
2-year-old sister Haley. The family resides in Huntersville, NC.

Tiki Barber ’97, Running Back for the New York Giants, is an NFC All-Star, playing in the 2005 Pro Bowl, held in Aloha Stadium, in Hawaii, Feb. 13, 2005. Barber’s achievement was featured Feb. 10, 2005, in a
USA Today article headlined “Giant Accomplishment for Barber; Running Back Savors First Pro Bowl Nod of Career.”
Max Rehm ’97 (Master’s in MIS ’98) sold his Munich-based computer networking business to another company in Munich last year and is currently enjoying some time off.
Daniel Biolsi ’98 and Karen (Stricklen) Biolsi (A&S ’00) welcomed their first child, George Allen, born Jan. 14, 2005. He weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long.
Suzy Williamson Hixenbaugh ’00 recently relocated to Denver with her husband, Jim, and joined the law firm of Faegre & Benson LLP as an Associate in its real estate department.
David Lago (Engineering ’94, Master’s in MIS ’00) and his wife, Theresa, celebrated the birth of their baby boy, Ethan William, born Feb. 23, 2005. He
was 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 20.5 inches.
Matthew McCourt ’02, after completing a six-month stint as a Volunteer Consultant in the Nairobi office of Technoserve (a nonprofit consulting company), moved back to Boston to work for his family’s business, McCourt Construction. McCourt will be enrolling in the two-year MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management in fall 2005.
Jeffrey Dunn ’01 is an Associate at Vulcan Capital, in Seattle. Vulcan Capital is the private investment group of Vulcan Inc., the organization founded by Microsoft Co-Founder Paul G. Allen in 1986 to manage his personal and professional endeavors.
Patrick McNamee (Master’s in MIT ’02) has been appointed by the Comptroller General of the United States to a four-year term on the Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards. Pat is a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Washington, D.C., and lives in Vienna, Va., with his wife, Dianne, and four children.
Mary C. Clark ’03 is an Associate in the Assurance Practice group in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Richmond, Va. office. She also passed the CPA exam last year.

Prasad Sombhatta (Master's in MIT ’04) married Sharmila Chakalakonda, of Cincinnati, Dec. 25, 2004. The couple lives in Charlottesville, Va., where Prasad is a Systems Analyst at the CFA Institute and Sharmila works as a Software Developer with Silverchair Science + Communications.
Brandon Walsh (Master’s in ’04) worked as a volunteer Feb. 15, 2005, for the Washington, D.C., Special Olympics. The event was the Adult Bowling Championship, located at Capital Plaza in Hyattsville, Md. Says Walsh, “It was such a fantastic and rewarding experience. Not only did I supervise and cheer on eight special adults, I also was honored to place the medals around each participant’s shoulders. I truly enjoyed my experience and urge anyone who would like to give back to the community in some fashion to volunteer.” Since that time, Walsh has been active with the D.C. Special Olympics and adds that the organization seeks volunteers for the D.C. Summer Games. Those interested in volunteering can contact Walsh at
