B.S. in Commerce

Philip Rubio

  • Hometown: Fairfax, VA
  • Concentrations: Finance and Management

About me:

My name is Philip Rubio, a third-year at McIntire, concentrating in Finance and Management. I am from Fairfax, VA (or “NoVa,” as 99.9% of UVA students call it) and have grown up a diehard D.C. sports fan, as I’ve now attended an event for every major D.C. team except one. I’m a big fan of the outdoors as well, hiking the Appalachian Mountains and several trails in Shenandoah National Park!

At UVA, I am part of InterVarsity as an Outreach team member (where I am an active participant in a common interest group to discuss “The Bachelor” every week) as well as Seek interfellowship worship, where our most recent event in 2019 gathered over 250 students at Memorial Gym. Before UVA, I spent five summers in Shreveport, LA, doing mission work for the Lakeside neighborhood, my favorite place besides home (and UVA, of course).

I recently completed fall Integrated Core Experience, during which my block consulted a major insurance company. This has been my favorite part of McIntire, as my team and I put together a presentation for executives—featuring our amazing Communication professor in our slides! I also love the sense of community at McIntire. From Halloween treats in our mailboxes to special speaker events, I always feel valued and challenged while learning so much in and out of the classroom. I am pursuing a career in consulting to become a future leader in business, as well as one day contributing to efforts in communities like Lakeside!
