Hi! My name is Ralph De Palma, and I am a third-year student at McIntire studying Finance and Accounting. I am also pursuing tracks in Quantitative Finance and Real Estate (talk numbers to me!). I am originally from Monmouth County, NJ, and chose UVA after visiting on a family vacation to Shenandoah National Park. Needless to say, I love it here.
I spend most of my time participating in UVA’s student organizations. I am the President of the Frank Batten Investment Fund, a club that teaches students the ins and outs of impact investing. I am also a UVA tour guide, and give admissions and historical tours to prospective students and visitors from around the world. I really enjoyed getting to learn the complex, nuanced history of UVA and am eager to share it with anyone willing to listen. Lastly, my Friday nights are reserved for the Jefferson Society, or “JeffSoc,” the oldest organization at UVA (founded in 1825), which is focused on literature and debate.
Although the virtual McIntire experience is quite different from that of years past, I have really enjoyed getting to know my peers. I have met only a select few people in person, yet I still feel surrounded by a strong community of likeminded students. I loved getting to know my 40+ new friends via Zoom, and would not trade this experience for the world.
I worked for the New York Yankees the summer after my first year.
McIntire’s Office of Undergraduate Admission collaborates with prospective B.S. in Commerce students, helping in a variety of ways.
We encourage prospective students to contact us early in the admissions process to take advantage of all of our advising opportunities, including academic advising, information sessions, and other events, or to connect with a student ambassador.
