Centennial Speaker Series: Margot Lee Shetterly

In this inaugural installment of the McIntire School’s Centennial Speaker Series, Margot Lee Shetterly (McIntire '91), best-selling Author and Visiting Scholar to the Schools of Commerce and Engineering, will explore the historical contributions of African-Americans and the intersections of history, technology, race, gender, work identity, and social mobility during an intimate fireside chat and conversation with fellow Commerce alumna Heidi Connal (McIntire '94).

The event is free and open to the public.

In celebration of its 100th anniversary in 2021, the McIntire School proudly presents the Centennial Speaker Series, thought-provoking keynotes and conversations featuring visionaries in business—and beyond. Representing a wide range of industries across private and public sectors, the series will offer relevant and insightful perspectives at the intersection of leadership and business. Speakers will reflect the rich diversity of the McIntire learning community and the rapidly changing global business landscape.

About Margot Lee Shetterly
Margot Lee Shetterly is the Author of the #1 New York Times best-selling book Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race. Hidden Figures was named a top book of 2016 by TIME magazine and Publishers Weekly, and in 2017 it was awarded Best Nonfiction Book at the NAACP Image Awards and Best Book at the National Academies of Sciences Communication Awards. Shetterly was an Executive Producer for the Academy Award-nominated film adaptation of Hidden Figures, and her research has been supported by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She and her husband, the writer Aran Shetterly, live in Charlottesville, VA.
