Professional Activities: 

Rick Carew is a Visiting Lecturer of Global Commerce at the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, teaching the seminar “The Global Digital Divide: Big Tech in a Multipolar World.” This new course explores the most important issues facing the technology industry today. Mr. Carew advises investors and executives on Asia's financial markets and U.S-China economic relations. Based in Hong Kong and China for a dozen years before relocating to Charlottesville in spring 2020, he has served as a Reporter and Senior Editor for The Wall Street Journal and advised companies including e-commerce giant Alibaba Group and private equity firm KKR & Co.

Mr. Carew holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a B.A. with High Honors in Economics and Chinese Language & Literature from the University of Virginia. He is fluent in Mandarin.
