Final Exercises

Valedictory Exercises
Friday, May 17, at 3 p.m., the Lawn

The Class of 2019 pays tribute to their fellow classmates and their time spent at the University at the Valedictory Exercises ceremony. All members of the UVA community, the graduating class, and guests are invited to attend. No tickets are required for the ceremony.

Final Exercises
Sunday, May 19, at 10 a.m., the Lawn

McIntire graduates assemble for the academic procession at 9:15 a.m. on the north side of the Rotunda, between the Rotunda and University Avenue. Guest tickets can be picked up at the UVA Bookstore Wednesday, May 15-Friday, May 17 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.); Saturday, May 18 (7 a.m. - 5 p.m.); and Sunday, May 19 (7 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.). Parking is not available throughout Central Grounds Sunday; graduates and guests are urged to park at John Paul Jones Arena or Scott Stadium and use the free bus service that will run continuously to the Lawn area, starting Sunday at 7 a.m.

McIntire School Ceremony
Sunday, May 19, 12:45 p.m., the Lawn

Immediately after the UVA Lawn Ceremony, all McIntire graduates will participate in a McIntire School Ceremony. No tickets are necessary for the McIntire School Ceremony. The ceremony lasts 1½-2 hours.

Should you require disability-related accommodations, please send your request to as early as possible, but no later than April 15, 2019, so that we have ample lead time to arrange for the necessary accommodations.  Examples of accommodations may include real-time captioning, ASL-English interpreting services, accessible digital copies of programs, accessible seating, and accessible parking.  Please include the following information in your request: Full Name, Contact Information, Degree Candidate Name and School/Department/Major, Date and Location of the Event and Accommodation requested.

Accommodation requests received at will be forwarded to school and department contacts to be addressed.  The University ADA Coordinator will be available to provide assistance and guidance regarding accommodation request. 

Inclement and Severe Weather Plans

If the severe or inclement weather plan is used, announcements will be made no later than 8 a.m. on local radio stations and the University’s home page, If in doubt, call 434-924-7669 or the graduation information line, 434-982-3099.



Inclement Weather Plan

In the event of inclement weather (e.g., rain), the Lawn Ceremony will be held as scheduled on the Lawn, but all subsequent School ceremonies will be moved indoors. In this case, the McIntire School Ceremony will be held at the John Paul Jones Arena at 3:30 p.m. and students should report at 2:45 p.m.


Severe Weather

Severe Weather Plan

In the event that severe weather prevents the Lawn Ceremony from occurring, the University Ceremony will be held in the John Paul Jones Arena at 10 a.m. Guest tickets for the Lawn will be used for entry to the arena. Under the severe weather plan, the McIntire School Ceremony will be held at the John Paul Jones Arena at 3 p.m. The severe weather plan will be used only in case of thunder, lightning, high winds, or other conditions that make it unsafe to hold ceremonies outside. Rain alone does not constitute severe weather.
