In 2012, as a response to increased emphasis on communication within the accounting profession, a managerial communication module, “Leading for Results within the Accounting Profession,” was integrated into the M.S. in Accounting Program’s required coursework. In the second month of the program, McIntire’s communication faculty members deliver a series of intensive classes and evening workshops to help introduce M.S. in Accounting students to the complexities of internal corporate communication; the importance of audience assessment for effective communication during client meetings; corporate expectations for “client ready” deliverables; and the communication-related best practices they will be asked to demonstrate throughout the M.S. in Accounting Program.
Communication and Accounting faculty members work in collaboration to create meaningful communication assignments not only for leadership-related coursework, but across the M.S. in Accounting Program. As a result, students gain key skills in developing strategies that will enable them to engage in clear, effective, and compelling communications with clients and colleagues.
