M.S. in Accounting 2016 (Tax Consulting Track)
Now: Ernst & Young, Tax Staff (McLean, VA)
Most memorable class
Any of the tax classes with Professor Wilkie. The classes were composed of a small, close-knit group of students, and everyone shared ideas.
Leveraging the M.S. in Accounting degree in the workplace
I think I've been able to think outside the box a lot more and become an effective communicator. I've also been able to hone a lot of the technical skills I developed at McIntire.
A typical day on the job
Every day is different! Last week I worked on the income tax provision for a large telecommunications provider, prepared partnership tax returns for a real estate investment firm, and researched state R&D credits for an aerospace and defense contractor.
What makes the job great
I like the variety a lot. My colleagues are supportive and really fun to work with.
Advice for future M.S. in Accounting students
Participate in class—it's a zero-risk environment in which to practice sharing your thoughts. Also, take advantage of living in Charlottesville—you will miss it.
Preparation for professional success and leadership in the workplace
You spend a lot of time working with your classmates at McIntire. It's a similar environment in the work force, so after you graduate, there aren't any surprises.
