Why did you choose UVA’s M.S. in Commerce Program? My background in food science gave me advanced knowledge of complex systems, but I was looking for a way to apply my skills outside of the lab. The M.S. in Commerce was the perfect facilitator of my dynamic transition from the microscope to the telescope of business theory. I saw UVA’s program had a stellar track record (academically and financially), and was immersive in a truly unique way.
What do you enjoy about the program so far? Every day you’re challenged to strategically think on your feet and learn to see the world in an entirely new context. Of course, the brilliant professors, wildly talented peers, and promise of international adventure don’t hurt either.
What has surprised you about the program so far? The course design emphasizes the connectedness that exists between subjects, even topics as divergent as storytelling and accounting. It’s like the business world is a gigantic tapestry and every course is a single thread. Oh, and recruiting starts really early.
