Craig Lefanowicz

McIntire Accounting Professor Craig Lefanowicz is one of eight UVA professors to receive a 2018 All-University Teaching Award, in recognition of his outstanding mentoring and teaching of undergraduate and graduate students.

Along with a banquet held April 26, 2018, to honor this year’s outstanding group of teachers, the awards come with a range of funding for the professors to use in designing or reworking a course of their choosing and with a commitment to share their methods and ideas with their peers in several different ways.

An expert in financial reporting and taxation of corporate control transactions, Lefanowicz researches the impact that accounting and taxation have on the structure and pricing of mergers and acquisitions. He has taught a variety of financial accounting and reporting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and his work is published in, among other places, The Accounting Review; The Journal of Finance; Review of Accounting Studies; Journal of Corporate Finance; Journal of the American Taxation Association; and Accounting Horizons.

In a letter of nomination for the award, a student of Lefanowicz describes him as “intuitive, flexible, and entertaining” in the classroom and “understanding, passionate, and diligent” outside it.

Lefanowicz, who joined McIntire’s faculty in 2004, teaches in the School’s M.S. in Accounting Program and M.S. in MIT Program. He also serves as the Director of the School’s PricewaterhouseCoopers Center for Innovation in Professional Services and as the Accounting Area Coordinator.
