McIntire Professor Jeff Boichuk Receives Best Dissertation Award from University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business

Newly hired McIntire Assistant Professor of Marketing Jeff Boichuk has been awarded the 2015 Best Bauer Dissertation Award from the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business. Boichuk’s dissertation, “Developing and Retaining New Hires during the Sales Force Socialization Process,” was lauded by the awarding committee for its breadth and quality, and Boichuk himself, who received his Ph.D. from Bauer in 2014, was commended for the overall potential of his research.

“Students like you represent the best of our academic legacy, and we look forward to the contributions you will continue to make in your field in the years to come,” the committee said in a written statement dated Aug. 31, 2015.

“Developing and Retaining New Hires during the Sales Force Socialization Process” explores why the rate of turnover among salespeople is so high—some 20 percent of salespeople quit, annually—and how companies can promote the success and retention of their sales force through effective expectation management and the creation of more supportive organizational cultures.

Boichuk’s research has been recognized by the American Marketing Association, and portions of his dissertation have been published in Journal of Marketing, a top-tier academic publication. Boichuk has also presented his dissertation research at leading academic conferences.

“We are extremely pleased—but not surprised—to learn of Professor Boichuk’s recognition by the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston,” says McIntire Marketing Professor Rick Netemeyer, who serves as the School’s Marketing Area Coordinator. “We congratulate him on this early success, and look forward to his continued outstanding contributions to the McIntire School of Commerce and the field of marketing.”
