McIntire’s annual Careers in Finance Conference is designed especially for second-year students, helping them to understand the wide variety of financial career opportunities available and to discover which area is of special interest to them.
Featuring presentations by industry executives with expertise across the financial spectrum, a panel of young professionals giving their perspectives from the workplace, and extensive networking opportunities, this popular conference has quickly become an established fall forum.
McIntire Finance faculty begin the conference with a useful primer on finance, demystifying and defining various financial terms and exploring the job possibilities in the world of finance. The conference features presentations by senior executives from a select group of corporate sponsors that each speak on a designated topic, such as:
- Private wealth management
- Independent financial advisory
- Asset and investment management
- Private equity
- Sales and trading
- Large-scale investment banking: advising, underwriting, and financing
“The Careers in Finance Conference showed me the different options that were available to students interested in finance and provided an opportunity to ask questions. Before attending the seminar, I wasn't familiar with private banking or wealth management. The seminar opened my eyes to these areas, introduced me to people in the industry, and helped set me on the path to securing an internship this past summer, and then a full-time offer with JP Morgan Private Bank in San Francisco upon graduation.” – Ryan Whitney (McIntire '14)
