Students at Career Day

Networking will be an integral part of every stage of your career. It is said that 80% of jobs are filled by word-of-mouth, which means they are never advertised, so the only way to find those jobs is through networking! Networking, basically, is the exchange of information, ideas, and support. It's all about building mutually beneficial relationships.

At McIntire, you'll have many opportunities to network with employers at various networking events, Commerce Career Day panels, information sessions, and Employer-in-Residence programs. It's important to make the most of these opportunities! You'll also want to find other great people to network with:

• Relatives
• Friends
• Neighbors
• Community members
• Faculty members
• Student organization members
• LinkedIn members
• Alumni

An excellent way to connect with alumni is through HoosOnline, a collection of information and password-protected networking services for UVA alumni, students, and faculty. HoosOnline hosts an alumni directory that allows you to search for alums by location, industry, employer, etc. To begin, simply register at HoosOnline.
